About Our Client
Our client is a well-established steel fabrication and welding company based in North Pole, Alaska. Known for tackling complex construction and fabrication projects with precision and professionalism, they are looking for an experienced Project Manager/Estimator to join their team and play a key role in driving project success from the ground up.
Position Summary
The Project Manager/Estimator is a combined leadership and technical role responsible for overall project estimating, cost planning, scheduling, and materials procurement for steel construction and fabrication projects. This position manages day-to-day project operations from bid through final closeout, working cross-functionally with clients, architects, engineers, subcontractors, and suppliers. The role requires effective and persuasive communication skills, the ability to track jobs across many stages under stringent deadlines, and reports directly to the General Manager. Steel project experience is a must.
Key Responsibilities:
Estimating & Bidding
- Prepare quantity take-offs; estimate costs for materials, labor, and equipment required to fulfill all contract provisions
- Develop bid packages and solicit bids; work with the design team to ensure complete bids and give field teams the right information to start construction or maintain the project schedule
- Write specific and general instructions to bidders and required bid forms
- Review subcontractor and supplier bids for conformity to contract requirements and determine acceptable bids
- Analyze construction documents, specifications, and proposals to prepare accurate project estimates
Project & Schedule Management- Manage day-to-day steel fabrication project operations — participating in all phases from award through closeout
- Create, maintain, and manage preconstruction/design schedules; track multiple projects simultaneously
- Coordinate contract administration, materials purchasing, procurement, and scheduling
- Monitor job budgets; establish and maintain project schedules and perform ongoing budget
- analysis
- Handle contract negotiations/management, progress billings, change order management, submittals/shop drawings, field/project visits, warranty/project closeout documents, and punch list documentation
- Interface with Ironworker General Foreman and internal departments
Subcontractor & Client Relations- Manage subcontractor prequalification process; verify experience and financial capabilities of awarded subcontractors
- Communicate with owners, general contractors, architects, and engineers
- Read and comprehend plan drawings and specifications
- Ensure field teams have the resources, training, and information needed to execute safely and on schedule
Requirements
- 4-year degree in Engineering, Construction Management, or equivalent preferred
- 2+ years of experience in a construction-related field; steel fabrication/steel project experience required
- Working knowledge of Federal and State occupational safety and health regulations
- Strong communication, organizational, and people management skills
- Self-starter and team player with a can-do attitude; ability to manage competing deadlines across multiple projects
- Must pass a background screening, post-offer medical examination, and drug/physical capabilities test
