Students respond to a 4-question essay prompt proposing ideas to improve their communities. Applications close Feb 3, 2026.
🏆Judges select finalists for regional competitions to compete for trophies and prizes between late March and late May.
📍The top 3 winners from each regional competition advance to the State Finals, taking place from early June through July.
⭐One finalist from each state receives a trip to the National Championship to compete for big prizes.

About the Bee
The Fairbanks Chamber of Commerce is partnering with the U.S. Chamber of Commerce Foundation to host a nonpartisan civics competition that encourages young Americans to engage in civics and contribute to their communities.
Participating 6th, 7th and 8th graders will flex their civics knowledge for a chance to win recognition and cash prizes. Finalists will be invited to Washington, DC to compete in the National Civics Bee® national championship in Fall 2026.
Why Civics?
We believe that informed and active citizens make for a strong country, a strong economy, and a strong workforce. Through the Bee, we are promoting greater civic knowledge in Alaska and celebrating our civic pride.
How to Enter
Any 6th, 7th, or 8th grade student residing in Alaska may submit an essay. Check out the Study Guide to prepare!

- Create an account and access the application form starting September 8, 2025.
- Submit your essay application online by February 3, 2026.
- Finalists will be notified by March 8, 2026.

Frequently Asked Questions
Any 6th, 7th, or 8th-grade student residing in a participating state is eligible. This includes students from public, private, charter, and homeschools.No. It is completely free for students to participate in the National Civics Bee®.Applications for the 2026 competition close on February 3, 2026, at 11:59 p.m. Hawaii Standard Time (HST).Students can use the Essay Guide to access prompts and rubrics. Finalists who advance to live quiz competitions will receive a specialized study guide and access to Khanmigo, Khan Academy’s AI tutor.The competition is organized by The Civic Trust of the U.S. Chamber of Commerce Foundation in partnership with local and state chambers of commerce across the country.
