Out of the Darkness Community Walk- American Foundation for Suicide Prevention
-
When you walk in the Out of the Darkness Walks, you join the effort with hundreds of thousands of people to raise awareness and funds that allow the American Foundation for Suicide Prevention (AFSP) to invest in new research, create educational programs, advocate for public policy, and support survivors of suicide loss. Thanks to Walkers and Donors like you, AFSP has been able to set a goal to reduce the annual suicide rate 20% by 2025. WALK ROUTE DETAILS The Out of the Darkness Community Walk will take place at Griffin Park in downtown Fairbanks. Participants can park at the Morris Thompson Cultural Center or TCC parking lot across the street. The walk will start, and finish at the antler arch located at the back of Morris Thompson Cultural Center, and fallow the bike path along the Chena River. Walkers will cross the pedestrian bridge between Golden Heart Plaza and the Doyon Limited building then follow the path under the Veterans Memorial Bridge. We will walk along 2nd Ave to Spruce Tree Montessori School and turn around and fallow the same path back to the antler arch. The route is not technically challenging, has very little elevation change, and is wheelchair friendly throughout the majority of its length. If you or members of your team would like to attend the walk and be a part of the day’s events but do not wish to actually walk for physical or other concerns, there will be volunteers and attendees who remain at the staging area to welcome the volunteers
