This special event also includes performances by the Troth Yeddha’ and Iñu-Yupiaq Alaska Native student dance groups and a panel discussion about the film’s themes of efficacy, empowerment and how we can persevere as a people who have experienced historical trauma. An adaptation of Richard Wagamese’s award-winning novel, Indian Horse sheds light on the dark history of Canada’s Residential Schools and the indomitable spirit of Indigenous people. The film tells the story of 8-year-old Saul Indian Horse who is torn away from Ojibway (Anishnaabe) family and committed to one of Canada’s notorious Catholic Residential Schools in the 1950s.
