    JOB SUMMARY: This position requires expertise in remote sensing, GIS, and data analysis. The position will support ABR’s vegetation, landscape science, and wildlife programs. The successful applicant will assist with analyzing remotely sensed, modeled, and field data to evaluate and monitor natural ecosystems, including data management and the preparation of technical reports. There will also be opportunities to participate in ABR’s vegetation and wildlife research and monitoring projects.

    JOB RESPONSIBILITIES: 

    • Compile and analyze remotely sensed data (e.g., satellite imagery, aerial photography, LiDAR) to assess land cover, vegetation health, cover, biomass, height and other relevant metrics.

    • Develop and implement remote sensing analysis workflows using appropriate software and tools, including Artificial Intelligence workflows.

    • Document and iterate on reproducible workflows using scripts, code repositories, markdown, etc.

    • Integrate remote sensing data with other spatial data (e.g., GIS, field data, tabular databases) for comprehensive analysis.

    • Prepare maps, reports, and presentations communicating results of remote sensing analysis.

    • Collaborate with field staff to ground-truth remote sensing data and interpret results.

    QUALIFICATIONS: 

    • Expertise in remote sensing principles and techniques is required.

    • Proficiency in GIS and remote sensing software (e.g., Python, ArcGIS Pro, Google Earth Engine, R terra) is required.

    • Experience with programming languages (e.g., Python, R) for data analysis is required.

    • Experience in relational database management is preferred.

    • Knowledge of Alaska ecosystems and land cover types is preferred.

    • Ability to work independently and as part of a team is required.

    • Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Remote Sensing, GIS, Computer Science, Data Science or a related field is required.

    HOURS: 20–40 hours per week; field work may involve longer hours and travel.

    COMPENSATION: $31+/hour, depending on experience; overtime eligible. Eligible for benefits after 3 months of employment.
