    Position Overview

    Interior Gas Utility (IGU) is seeking a detail-oriented Accounts Payable and Asset Management Specialist to support the organization’s financial and operational functions. This role is responsible for processing accounts payable, managing data entry for new assets, maintaining accurate asset and inventory records, and supporting construction-related financial tracking. The ideal candidate is organized, accurate, and able to work collaboratively with the accounting and operations teams.

    Pay Range: $28.78 – $35.14 / hour, depending on experience

    About Interior Gas Utility

    The IGU was formed as a community answer to an energy crisis of high heating costs and poor air quality by building a natural gas utility to bring natural gas to the community at an affordable price. The natural gas utility was established in 2012 and is governed by a seven member Board of Directors.

    The IGU’s mission is to provide low cost, clean burning natural gas to the largest number of people throughout the Fairbanks North Star Borough safely, economically, and as quickly as possible. The IGU seeks an individual who will focus on facilitating public and private partnerships and share in the passion and dedication of this community vision.

    Essential Duties and Responsibilities

    Accounts Payable

    • Process, verify, and enter vendor invoices with accurate account coding and proper approvals.
    • Prepare timely vendor payments, including checks, ACH, and electronic transfers.
    • Reconcile vendor statements and resolve discrepancies in a timely manner.
    • Maintain positive vendor relationships and ensure compliance with procurement requirements.
    • Monitor accounts payable aging and ensure on-time payments to avoid late fees.
    • Track, code, and process payables associated with construction projects and capital work.

    Asset Management & Inventory

    • Perform data entry for new assets, including creation and maintenance of detailed asset records.
    • Coordinate and participate in physical inventory counts as needed.
    • Maintain and reconcile inventory records, asset listings, and supporting documentation.
    • Assist in tracking construction work-in-progress (CWIP) and transitioning completed projects into fixed assets.
    • Support asset valuation, tagging, and record updates in accordance with IGU policies and procedures.

    General Accounting, Administration, and Compliance

    • Ensure compliance with internal policies, GASB requirements, and audit documentation needs.
    • Assist with internal reporting, documentation, and file maintenance for audits or reviews.
    • Collaborate with the Accounting Manager and Operations staff to improve AP and asset management workflows.
    • Provide backup support to other accounting functions as needed.
    • Perform other duties as assigned.

    Qualifications

    • Experience in accounts payable, bookkeeping, asset management, or related fields.
    • Strong attention to detail, accuracy, and organizational skills.
    • Proficiency with accounting systems, spreadsheets, and Microsoft Office applications.
    • Ability to communicate effectively and work collaboratively across departments.
    • Ability to maintain confidentiality and handle sensitive information.

    Physical Requirements and Work Environment

    • Frequent standing, walking, and sitting for extended periods.
    • Routine use of hands to handle or operate tools, controls, and office equipment.
    • Ability to work in an office environment with minimal physical hazards.
    • Occasional visits to warehouse or field locations for inventory or asset verification.
