The Accounting Specialist is responsible for handling a variety of accounting tasks, ensuring accuracy in financial records, and supporting the Finance Department with day-to-day operations. This role involves processing transactions, reconciling accounts, and assisting with financial reporting.Starting Salary Range: $27.92/hour - $28.85/hour
This is an in-person position located in Fairbanks, Alaska.
What you will do
- Process accounts payable (AP) and accounts receivable (AR) transactions, including invoicing, payments, and collections.
- Reconcile bank statements, credit card transactions, and general ledger accounts.
- Maintain accurate financial records and documentation for audits and compliance.
- Assist with month-end and year-end closing activities.
- Prepare journal entries and ensure proper classification of financial data.
- Support payroll processing and reconciliations as needed.
- Assist with preparing financial and management costs reports.
- Assist with audits by providing support, preparing schedules,?and answering questions.
- Communicate with vendors, customers, stakeholders or process owners as necessary to advise and address issues or support internal operations.
- Ensure compliance with company policies, accounting standards, and regulatory requirements.
- Identify discrepancies and work to resolve them in a timely manner.
- Serve as back-up for other accounting positions as needed.
Conditions of Employment
Must pass a pre-employment drug test, random drug test thereafter in accordance with the published policy of Doyon Utilities. Must have a valid driver's license issued by the State of Alaska. Must be eligible to work on a military installation in Alaska. Eligibility to work on a military installation includes compliance with Department of Defense mandates with respect to employee background and health directives.Qualifications
- High School Diploma, GED or equivalent Required
- 2 years of job-related experience. Related education may be substituted for experience on a 2:1 ratio (e.g. 2 months of education equals 1 month of experience). Required
