Alaskan residents may see and hear increased military flying activities this spring and summer due to scheduled training exercises at Elmendorf and Eielson Air Force Bases. RED FLAG-Alaska is a series of Pacific Air Forces commander-directed field training exercises for U.S. and allied forces that provides joint offensive counter-air, interdiction, close air support, and large force employment training in a simulated combat environment.
The upcoming RED FLAG exercises for the 2011 are as follows:
RED FLAG-Alaska 11-1: Apr. 14-29
RED FLAG-Alaska 11-2: Jul. 7-22
RED FLAG-Alaska 11-3: Aug. 11-26
RED FLAG-Alaska 12-1: Oct. 6-21
Tentative flying periods for RED FLAG-Alaska 11-1 are 9a.m. – 1p.m. and 3p.m. – 7p.m. weekdays, with no flying scheduled for the weekends.
