    Golden Valley Electric Association: Our Story

    GVEA is an electric cooperative which maintains 3,292 miles of transmission and distribution lines, 40 substations, and 9 generating facilities. Our system is interconnected with Fort Wainwright, Eielson AFB, Fort Greely, the University of Alaska-Fairbanks, and all of the electric utilities in the Alaska Railbelt, extending from Homer to Fairbanks.     Make a difference as a Safety Specialist

    As a Safety Specialist at Golden Valley Electric Association, you will play a crucial role in delivering on-site safety support and conducting inspections and training for the Safety Manager, Healy Plant Managers, employees, and contractors. Your active involvement in safety and risk mitigation activities for the Healy Power Plant will be vital in fostering a safe and productive work environment. You will manage and coordinate all health and safety matters, proactively identifying and anticipating potential concerns and hazards. By developing and administering comprehensive systems, policies, and procedures, you will ensure compliance with GVEA requirements and occupational safety and health regulations, making a significant impact on the overall safety culture of the organization.

    What we're looking for in a Safety Specialist

    To excel as a Safety Specialist at Golden Valley Electric Association, a robust set of skills and experience is essential. An Associate Degree in Occupational Health & Safety or a related field is preferred, but candidates with two years of industrial safety work experience may be considered in lieu of formal education. A minimum of eight years of relevant experience in an industrial work environment is imperative, as is a valid driver's license. Candidates must demonstrate in-depth knowledge of OSHA, EPA, ADEC, and DOT regulations to effectively manage safety protocols.

    Exceptional interpersonal, oral, and written communication skills are necessary for training and collaborating with diverse teams. This role demands a proactive mindset, diligent attention to detail, and the ability to anticipate and address safety concerns efficiently, ensuring a safe operational environment for all.

    Knowledge and skills required for the position are:
