Preventative Maintenance Technician
Posted: 08/14/2023The University of Alaska Fairbanks HVAC Shop seeks an applicant for the position of Preventative Maintenance Technician to perform PM work in order to keep mechanical equipment in peak operating condition.
Duties:
•The Preventative Maintenance Technician performs and documents preventative maintenance in all UAF facilities with major emphasis on heating, ventilation, and air conditioning (HVAC), refrigeration equipment, boilers, and glycol chemistry using the AIM Computerized Maintenance Management System (CMMS). • The Preventative Maintenance Technician will perform semi-skilled maintenance tasks as well as some equipment testing and cleaning, and will work directly with a team of technicians that performs skilled maintenance and repairs. • Typical work will include changing air filters, greasing motors, cleaning heating and cooling coils, replacing belts, and performing visual inspections on a variety of equipment. • Preventative maintenance tasks are performed indoors or outdoors in all weather conditions, and employees may be required to crawl, climb, sit, and stand for long periods of time. • This position requires working under various lighting conditions. Noise levels may be high when operating various types of equipment. • Preventative maintenance technicians may be exposed to high voltage electricity, confined spaces, heights, chemicals, and some asbestos containing material. • All appropriate training and personal protective equipment (PPE) will be provided.
Typical work will include changing air filters, greasing motors, cleaning mechanical equipment, and performing visual checks on a variety of mechanical equipment. A general daily schedule will be M-F 8:00am – 4:30pm.
Required education or training: May possess journeyman level certification. High school graduate or equivalent. Requires apprentice level or other equivalent certification appropriate to the specific trade; with a minimum of three years related experience and/or training (building or equipment maintenance); or equivalent combination of education and experience. Valid Driver’s License with clean driving record.
