    General Manager Job Announcement Position Description: Green Star of Interior Alaska (GSIA) is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization formed in 1998 whose mission is to encourage reuse of materials, reduction of unnecessary waste and to increase recycling efforts in Interior Alaska. We have a small but dedicated staff and Board of Directors and we are supported by volunteers. Green Star’s programs include operating the Central Recycling Facility (CRF) and managing electronics recycling for the Fairbanks North Star Borough and surrounding Interior Alaska villages. The General Manager (GM) is responsible for leading the vision and daily operation of Green Star of Interior Alaska within the framework of the long-range strategy established by the Board of Directors and the GM. The GM is committed to Green Star’s mission to encourage and enable our community to reduce waste and increase recycling. The GM will be expected to develop knowledge of Green Star’s programs, operations, and business plans. The GM will ensure that the organization has a long-range strategy which achieves its mission, and toward which it makes consistent and timely progress. Salary: $52,000 to $57,000 depending on experience; Salaried, Exempt Benefits: Paid holidays. Paid-time off. Hours: Full-Time (~40 hrs/week) Location: Office is located at the GSIA warehouse at 2134 Texaco Avenue. The GM will visit the CRF warehouse (located at 1855 Marika Rd) regularly to meet with the supervisor, technicians and with the Borough Recycling Manager. Duties & Responsibilities Administrative Works with the GSIA Management Team to further develop the staff's implementation of the Sociocratic worker self-directed model. Provides leadership in program development and organizational and financial plans with the Board of Directors and staff. Prepares and works within a comprehensive budget approved by the Board. Recruits, evaluates, and manages paid staff. Carries out plans and policies authorized by the Board. Maintains official records and documents, and ensures compliance with federal, state and local regulations in a timely manner. Maintains a working knowledge of significant developments and trends in local recycling efforts and green business practices. Understands and maintains contractual obligations with a variety of entities. Facilitates, maintains and builds positive relationships within our community. Engages and supports a strong Board of Directors. Recycling Contracts Main point of contact with the Borough’s Recycling Manager for two contracts. Responsible for all contract personnel matters including recruiting, hiring, disciplinary actions, performance reviews, and terminating of CRF contract personnel. Works closely with the CRF Recycling Supervisor to ensure that Recycling Technicians are trained on and follow the CRF policies and procedures, safety manual, and employee handbook. Orders all personal protective equipment and materials necessary for the CRF operations. Maintains official records and timely files reports with the Borough. Ensures compliance with federal, state and local regulations. Required Qualifications Excellent people, communication, and management skills. Competency in Microsoft Office and Google Workspace. Experience with project or contract management with a team approach. Experience with hiring, evaluating, and effectively supervising staff. Attention to detail. Ability to prioritize and manage multiple tasks. Must have a current driver’s license and personal vehicle for travel between GSIA and the CRF. Desired Qualifications Bachelor’s degree; training or experience in business, environmental/sustainability fields, communications, or public relations is a plus. Experience working with/for local or regional organizations, preferably non-profits Experience with budgeting and Quickbooks accounting software. Working Conditions Perform tasks while sitting, standing and walking. Working in a warehouse environment where conditions will vary with seasons and location.
