    Would you like to:
    • Provide legal advice to the Borough Mayor, Assembly, boards and commissions on a regular or as-needed basis, including attendance at evening meetings
    • Direct client counseling of Borough and School District staff, to solve a range of operational legal issues
    • Draft legislation to be introduced before Borough Assembly
    • Be required to occasionally act as Borough Attorney
    • Prepare and review contract, leases and other Borough documents
    • Prepare legal opinions concerning correct procedures, statutory interpretation and status of the law; submits opinions to Borough Attorney
    • Prepare research memoranda for Borough Attorney, addressing complex legal questions
    • Represent Borough and School District in a variety of adversarial proceedings and litigation, prepare pleadings, briefs, interview witnesses, investigate claims, appear as trial attorney, prepare motions, negotiate settlements etc.
    Ideally you have:
    • JD from accredited law school, membership in good standing in the Alaska Bar Association. Candidates eligible for admission in Alaska whether by waiver or reciprocity, may be considered. Candidates eligible for a supervised practitioner permit may be considered if membership is obtained within 90 days of employment
    • Must be available for after-hours work and meetings
    • Experience in trials, litigation, appeals, municipal law and/or administrative law preferred
    • Demonstrated knowledge of legal research techniques, skill in preparation of briefs and formal legal opinions
    • Ability to prepare and present sound legal positions during litigation
    • Ability to communicate effectively verbally and in writing             
    • Ability to deal harmoniously and effectively with clients, co-workers, government officials, the public, the bench and Bar
    • Current driver’s license and clean driving record
    • Clean criminal background check
