    Job Description

    Terminal Lead Operator is an hourly position week-on week-off rotating work schedule and reports directly to the Terminal Manager in Fairbanks. The Lead Operator is directly accountable for supervision, development, and performance management of his/her operators.


    ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES (and other duties as assigned)

    • The Lead Operator works closely with the Terminal Manager in efficiently implementing daily and long-term Terminal goals and objectives.
    • Ensures all personnel adhere to established health and safety procedures and programs.
    • Helps ensure compliance with all applicable environmental regulations.
    • Adheres to established procedures and good operating/maintenance procedures
    • Consistently demonstrates a high degree of knowledge in the day-to-day operations required to maintain the facility.
    • Responds to system emergencies.
    • Possesses broad knowledge of specifications, quality assurance and petroleum measurement procedures for all company products.
    • Is directly responsible for the safety and professional development of his/her shift personnel.
    • Ensures that procedures and operational methods are consistently applied every day.
    • Continuously improves his/her knowledge and the crew’s knowledge.
    • Provides leadership, guidance, and training as required.
    • Works in a professional manner and set the standard for professionalism of the crew.
    • Participates in the development of training programs, as well as building up the operator team and ensuring their competence for required tasks within the Terminal.
    • Furnishes incidental relief for Terminal Manager as needed.
    • Develops organizational capability within crews to include maintenance of operating systems, and integration of Process Safety Management within the daily tasks.
    • Supervises all operational tasks and ensures jobs and tasks are conducted within established plant safe operating practices.
    • Coordinates loading and unloading of rail cars, including communication with the Alaska Railroad, other company Terminals and Director of Supply.
    • Instills a culture of high HSE awareness in assigned crew, for example by ensuring permit to work compliance and appropriate job safety analysis.
    • Responsible for developing and implementing the daily operational plan and managing operator performance.
    • Ensures product quality control is maintained.
    • Capable of acting as Incident Commander for the Terminal.
    • Ensures operator rounds are completed in an effective and timely manner every day all day.


    • High school diploma or equivalent.
    • Continuing education and/or experience in management, and safety.


    • Technical degree, i.e., chemical, petroleum, electrical or mechanical
