UAF Summer Sessions Cinema: At the Time of Whaling
(1974) Directed by Sarah Elder and Leonard Kamerling. An Eskimo whaling party strikes a bowhead whale among the ice floes in the Bering Sea. Eighteen boats rope themselves together to tow the whale back to the village. In rare footage the film documents the hunt, dancing and sharing of meat.
