The Chamber will hold a special advocacy luncheon on Alaska’s fiscal situation with State Senate and Chamber Leadership. The Lunch will be co-hosted by the Fairbanks Economic Development Corporation and the Alaska Support Industry Alliance and is in place of the normal GML.
The focus of luncheon is to advocate for restructuring of the Alaska Permanent Fund (such as SB 128) to continue, but lower the dividend and divert some revenue to fund roads, public safety, education and other necessary government functions. With the Governor’s signature and vetoes on the operating, capital and oil tax bills this week, the stage is now set for the Legislative special session on July 11. We encourage the House to follow the Senate’s action in passing a Permanent Fund restructure, the single largest part of the fiscal solution.
The Chamber appreciates Governor Walker’s signing the oil tax legislation (HB 247) and making further reductions to the budget in his vetoes, including lowering the Permanent Fund dividend to $1,000.
Please join us at noon Wednesday (note day change) July 6th in the Carlson Center.
