Fairbanksans living with chronic lung disease can get support through Better Breathers Clubs hosted by the American Lung Association. The next meeting is Tuesday, May 24 at 1 p.m. at the Fairbanks Senior Center, 1424 Moore St. Better Breathers Clubs offer the opportunity to learn ways to cope with chronic obstructive pulmonary disease, asthma, lung cancer and other lung diseases while getting the support of others who share in similar struggles. The support groups provide tools to help people living with lung disease find a better quality of life.
Better Breathers Clubs meet regularly and feature educational presentations on a wide range of topics, including, how COPD affects the lungs, breathing techniques, exercise, talking with health care providers, medications and other treatment options, medical tests, supplemental oxygen, home health care, lung transplants and air pollution.
Caregivers and family members are also welcome at the meetings.
