DESCRIPTION:Nichole Schmidt and Tara Petito   mother and stepmother of Gabby Petito   share their story and speak about recognizing the warning signs of domestic violence. After Gabby's death in a nationally known case of intimate partner violence\, they turned unimaginable loss into advocacy\, working to educate young people and families about red flags\, prevention and speaking up before abuse escalates. This event is open to UAF students\, high school students\, parents and community members. Together\, we can raise awareness\, support one another and help break the silence surrounding domestic violence. *Come informed!* Join us Monday\, Feb. 23rd at 5 PM in the Hess Recreation Center for a screening of the Netflix documentary\, American Murder: Gabby Petito. About the Gabby Petito Foundation The Gabby Petito Foundation was created in honor of Gabby Petito to prevent domestic violence and support efforts to locate missing persons. Through education\, advocacy and partnerships\, the foundation works to raise awareness about intimate partner violence\, empower young people to recognize warning signs and provide resources that help protect vulnerable individuals and families. About the UAF Department of Justice The UAF Department of Justice prepares students for careers in criminal justice\, law\, public service and advocacy. Through research\, community partnerships and experiential learning\, the department explores issues of justice\, victimization\, public safety and social responsibility   equipping students to make meaningful\, ethical contributions in their communities.
