SUMMARY:First Friday with R. Dale Guthrie
DESCRIPTION:Hoarfrost Distilling is extraordinarily proud to be featuring paintings by R. Dale Guthrie. Please join us for this amazing First Friday show unlike anything we have had before. "I loved to draw and drew a lot. I traveled to college to become a minister\, but was pulled loose to a higher calling\, by fantastic science and the power of visual art. With a PhD from the University of Chicago\, I joined the faculty at UAF in 1963. My art is influenced by the aesthetics and techniques of the 1880s\, when I think painting reached a zenith of rich\, complex colors and attentiveness to light. I was attracted to the art of Joaqu n Sorolla and John Singer Sargent\, sometimes copying their paintings in order to understand their techniques. In other paintings I included Sargent and his history into the image itself. In the 1800s those European artists (who became known as Orientalists) retreated to Mediterranean shores chasing winter light and different scenes."- R. Dale Guthrie Burlesq BBQ will be present selling food. Under 21 are welcome with parent or guardian.
