PROGRAM OF WORK
Goals
for the Year
- Promote Committee Growth by seeking business and community organization
membership from both Fairbanks and rural Communities, and promote
GFCC membership. Invite participation from SBA, BIA, UAF, FCVB, FEDC,
TCC, FNA, Doyon, Denakanaaga, rural community and tribal organizations,
economic development organizations
- Promote Regional Issue Awareness by supporting the return of the
AFN Convention to Fairbanks, supporting WEIO event awareness in Fairbanks
and Interior Region communities, inviting the media to participate
in village visits, increasing urban/rural community awareness of common
economic issues, highlight cross-cultural communication, marketing
methods and customer service. Support regional meetings and trade
shows. Brief regional leaders and legislators on U/R initiatives.
Encourage University to reinstate program for faculty for cross-cultural
communication awareness in rural Alaska, and encourage businesses
to have new employees attend cross-cultural communication course
- Promote Awareness of Rural Businesses to Fairbanks Market by promoting
the development of connections and partnerships between rural community
businesses and Fairbanks in efforts to foster and grow rural businesses,
actively look for rural businesses whose products “fits”
in the Fairbanks community and work to develop partnerships between
the communities to stimulate rural businesses and supporting the continuation
of bypass mail and increase flights to and from rural communities
to help rural businesses succeed and grow through tourism, trade and
entrepreneurship
- Promote Growth of Fairbanks as a Hub for rural communities It is
beneficial to rural residents to retain by-pass mail as a shipping
method from Fairbanks. Promotion of local business to rural communities
grows and expands shipping and ordering from Fairbanks, reaffirming
it as the “hub” of the interior. It is vital to our local
air carriers to increase the amount of cargo being shipped from Fairbanks
to rural communities. By increasing the amounts of cargo you increase
the amount of passenger seats available and promote travel to and
from Fairbanks
