Education Committee

2007 Goals for the Year:

• Participate with the school district, the Borough Assembly, legislators, and GFCC's  Governmental Relations Committee to advocate for increased K-12 funding
• Participate with the school district, the Borough Assembly, legislators, and GFCC's Governmental Relations Committee to advocate for increased K-12 funding
• Keep Chamber members informed about important education issues impacting our community
• Increase Chamber member participation in the Education Committee
• Serve as advisory board to School Partnerships program and sustain viable business community involvement in schools through active School Partnerships
• Initiate a recognition program for businesses demonstrating a commitment to youth-friendly employment practices

2007 Projects/Programs for the Year:   

• GFCC scholarship for attendance at University Alaska Fairbanks or UAF Tanana Valley Campus
• Positive picketing for teachers as they return to school
• Spirit of Youth Foundation: Youth Friendly Business Recognition Program
• Dropout prevention
• Career technology education
• District technology vision
